2011 WHITTLESEA STRAW BEAR FESTIVAL NEARS

The old English town of Whittlesey is going to se a lot of fun filled activities comes early next year 2011. The 2011 Whittlesea Straw Bear Festival has already seemed people starting off with the preparations. Right from January 14th to Jan 16th is going to vibrantly buzz with the pleasant noise and sound of dance shows, concerts and parades will the locals participating with absolute zing and vigor.

It all begins with a concert at the Ivy Leaf Club in Gracious Street, early morning at 8pm on Friday the 14th. The ticket deals are already in full flow as people flock by the dozens to get their seats booked at the concert which will have singer Flossie Malavialle making his presence felt. The next day sees a large gathering even as the parade begins on Saturday 15th.

This is when the straw bear will walk through the entire town even as cheered by the people of Whittlesey. The huge gathering of the crowd will be continuously entered by a number of dancer groups even as the event runs from 10.30am in the morning to 3.30pm noontime.

Next up would be poetry sessions held at the Whittlesey Library, Market Street with members of the Peterborough Poets Society and Ock ‘n’ Dough joining in the poetic sessions much to the delight of the public. This would go on from 12.30pm in the noon to 4.30pm in the evening. The Saturday barn dance is another much looked forward to event which will have The Hedgehog’s Skin as a special feature. The event would take place at the Sir Harry Smith Community College from 8pm in the morning to 11.30pm in the evening.

Other special additions would be a cajun dance held at Park Lane Primary School simultaneously. The two day of the event is bound to tire and exhausts one and all. But then people never run short of enthusiasm during the festivities even as on the concluding day of the event they round up at the Sir Harry Smith Community College where the straw bear will be put to flames. This would be in the afternoon after 2.30pm perhaps concluding the event as people head back home in a pleasant and happy mood.
